Missing OC’s Dining Guide – New Additions!

OK so we missed a few of our favorites in the first iteration of the guide! How could we leave out the eclectic Liquid Assets and the homely Crabcake Factory?  Ky West, a recent OC addition, also deserves a mention.

There are hundreds of places to eat out in Ocean City, but where do the locals eat??

2015 White Marlin Open – August 3-7th – Harbor Island
The White Marlin Open is an event that can be fun and exciting for the spectators as well as the anglers. All fish must be weighed on the official scale at Harbour Island, (14th Street and the Bay), and the weigh-ins are held there each day of the tournament from 4:00 to 9:15 PM and are open to the public free of charge. As the week goes on, the suspense builds, as potential lottery sized fortunes change hands with a tip of the scale. It’s a terrific way to spend a few exciting hours during your Ocean City vacation.

Boats can leave the inlet of their choice no earlier than 4:00am. Each boat must stop fishing by 3:30pm. If an angler still has a fish on the line at 3:30, the fish may be played until it is lost, boated, or released. Boats usually will be fishing from 2 to 4 hours off-shore, so generally the activity is heaviest from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The seas can sometime kick up and cause a slower trip back. Often an angler fighting a big tuna, or blue marlin, may be delayed. An angler fighting a blue marlin at 3:30 pm, is given an extension. Regardless of the day hooked-up, the angler has until Saturday, Aug. 8, at 12:15 AM to bring the fish to the scale.
There is no parking available at Harbour Island, but there is ample parking within a few block walk. The Presbyterian Church on 14th Street, just a block away offers parking for a small donation. Parking is also available at Holy Savior Church on 17th Street. There will also be a “Park and Ride Shuttle Service” offered from the Convention Center parking lot.For further information on the event Click here….

The Mako Mania is a mako shark tournament with added entry levels for bluefish and thresher shark. This tournament is traditionally the start of the tournament season in Ocean City. Mako mania was started in 1996 by Captain Steve Harman and continues to grow every year. The Mako Mania is unique in that boats of all sizes can compete with decent weather. Daily weigh-ins will be held at Bahia Marina from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm each fishing day. Stop by, have a beverage and something to eat at FishTales while watching the sharks come in to be weighed.

Visitor Alert!! Don’t miss out on West Ocean City!

When we tell visitors about all the fabulous restaurants and watering holes in West Ocean City (even some that have been visiting OC for most of their life), they will often say “Oh, we didn’t know anything was over there!”

Sure Ocean City has some fine restaurants, but when you’ve had enough AYCE crabs and seafood buffets (if that can ever happen,,,), West OC has a lot to offer.

Just across the Route 50 bridge and a few minutes from the boardwalk are some of the best restaurants, entertainment and views that you will find in this area. Great food, daily specials and happy hours abound

Here are a few of Missing Ocean City’s favorites that you should really check out.

Sunset Grille – the coolest place in OC with a fun crowd. Sip a cocktail and watch the (very exclusive…and expensive!) sport fishing boats bring back their catch. Great food (try the softshell crab and the twin lobster tails with Thai dipping sauce!). Entertainment dockside, rooftop bar and dining and a very “happening ” Tiki bar called ‘Teasers’.

Shark on the Harbor – Whole grains and whole foods are used in the preparation of an innovative menu – which their chefs write twice daily, based on what’s fresh, available and delicious. Full of organic produce from local farmers and seafood from the fishing harbor right outside the restaurant.  Some of the best food in town!

Micky Fins – Right in the heart of the OC Fishing Center, Micky Fins offers a casual relaxed atmosphere with some great water views.  Listen to the charter boat chat about what they caught, and what they missed! Fine casual dining, entertainment and a dockside bar make this a popular hangout with tourist and locals.
